Understanding Famine form a Biblical Perspective II

Bishop Josephat W. Mukemi | 16 July 2023

Bishop Josephat Mukemi delivered a sermon on famines, emphasizing God's manifestation during challenging times. He drew from biblical stories to illustrate his message. Firstly, he spoke about Abram in Genesis 12, who left the land God gave him to escape famine without seeking God's will. This highlighted the importance of seeking divine guidance in difficult situations.
The story of Esau and Jacob in Genesis 25, where Esau traded his birthright for a bowl of soup, sacrificing long-term benefits for immediate gratification is used for clarity. He urged the congregation to be cautious in their decisions during hardships, stressing the significance of prioritizing God's will.

Quoting Hebrews 12:16, the bishop emphasized seeking God's will and exercising wisdom during tough times. He encouraged patience while waiting for God's guidance, citing Psalms 40:1-3, which spoke of God's deliverance from difficulties for those who patiently wait on Him.

Additionally, the bishop referred to the famine in Ruth and Naomi's time, reminding the congregation that no challenge is insurmountable for God. He urged them not to view hardships as too complex for divine resolution.

The bishop stressed aligning one's life with God's will and seeking His face during challenging times. He challenged the congregation to be wise in their decision-making, knowing that God is capable of resolving any adversity.
